CENTRAL ISLIP – The Bohemia man convicted of drunken driving in an accident that killed a Medford couple was sentenced to six to 18 years in prison Friday.

Kyle Glinka, 23, slammed his car into a pickup truck carrying William and Joanne Kear in Ronkonkoma in April, killing them both. He pleaded guilty to the crime.

Investigators recorded his blood alcohol level at .19, which is more than twice the legal limit. Prosecutors said Glinka also ran a red light and was traveling at nearly 100 mph.

Glinka, sobbing softly, apologized in court.

“I’m so sorry for what I did to your family,” he said. “I don’t know what to say. I’m so sorry.”

The victims’ children were not satisfied — with the apology or the sentence.

“I don’t feel like it was at all coming from his heart, or his honest feeling,” said Christine Martin, one of the Kears’ daughters. “It was just, I think, prompted by his lawyer, or somebody told him to address us and to apologize.”

“Six years for killing two people — it’s not an incident, it’s two murders,” said an emotional Kelly Kear Hoffman, another daughter.

Glinka’s attorney said his client pleaded guilty in part to save the victims’ family from a long, drawn out trial.

“He admitted his guilt and wanted to not only put this behind him and his family — but also the victims’ family,” said Suffolk Criminal Attorney Michael Brown.
